T.O. Backyard – Baby Season!

It’s hard to believe we are in July already!  There was a long wait for Spring to arrive as April was not very Spring like.  Then it finally came.  So did the birds.  And it seemed no time was wasted getting nests set up and families on the go.

I thought for this month I would share some of the newly fledged birds we’ve encountered in our backyard or nearby.

Eastern Screech Owl

Northern Cardinal.

Red-tailed Hawks.

Indigo Bunting.

Northern Mockingbird.

Peregrine Falcon.

Blue Jay.

Eastern Kingbird.

Baltimore Oriole.

Bank Swallows.

Canada Goose.

Grey Catbird.

Cedar Waxwing.

Cooper’s Hawk.

Black-capped Chickadee.

And lastly, some real babies here being these newly hatched Tree Swallows.

As quickly as this has happened, it’s just about over and done with until 2019. We will watch the young ones grow and learn from their parents through the remainder of the Summer. All I can say is that for us, it’s the best nature channel out there. We love our backyard and the local green spaces here in our section of Toronto.

See you next month!

Rob and Angie

  1. Great stuff! Thanks

  2. I have to say that it freakin’ amazes me what you guys see IN THE CITY! 😁

  3. I just wanted to add that Rob monitors some nest boxes, and that is how he captured the newly hatched Tree Swallows. We do not encourage or recommend opening nest boxes for photos. Angie
