Bitty Bird ID

Fall migration is such a wonderful time for bird watchers. Not only do we have a variety of adult birds moving through, we have the added challenge of trying to identify juveniles.

For the past couple of weeks, I have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to identify the bitty brown birds in my yard. When I put up a new deck feeder a few weeks ago, I had no idea how handy it would be. I have all these little birds bopping around on the deck about 15 feet away when I’m standing in the kitchen. I am getting quite good at eating supper standing up, with binoculars in the other hand

I’m having so much fun with this I thought I would share it. Thanks to the wonderful photos from Wiki and my friend Bob Lefebvre, I present to you six species currently eating their way through my bird food.

1.

1. Female Dark-eyed Junco

2.

2. Female House Sparrow

3.

3. Pine Siskins

4.

4. Female House Finch

5.

5. White-throated Sparrow

6.
