Hi Pat - just heard about your blog, through your request for the IBA stuff from Chuck P, so I had to check it. Pretty impressive! I love your writing style - and of course, since the first thing I read is about probably my favourite bird, the magpie, I was thrilled. Glad to see the photo, too. Hardly anyone takes good shots of magpies, yet they are stunning models.
Only problem with your blog: it's another "must read" on my list of "must reads". Congrats, it's great.

Some famous birder once said, and I paraphrase, "If you took a blue jay and stuck it on top of a remote mountain in Mexico, birders would pay thousands of dollars to see it." Same thing goes for the magpie I would say. Gorgeous bird.

What a beautiful bird. I used find myself saying: "Oh, it's just a snowy egret, just a ...! " When I realized what I was doing and that 10 years ago I'd never even seen one, let alone have the privilege of observing its antics, I gave myself a good scold. Thank you for an interesting post!
